An extremely common harbor defense measure during World War 2 was the emplacement of 155-mm guns on "Panama mounts". This particular grouping was called Battery GPF, an abbreviation of the French term used to designate the 155-mm gun. The mounts, as shown here, were extremely simple concrete structures which provided a stable firing position.
